Jewelers can testify in more than one way to the fact that small things can be very appealing. But also tiny things able to achieve major feats range at the top of the popularity scale. These include beacons – transmitters based on Bluetooth low energy. The 20 mm small “beacons” can locate people or items with an accuracy of down to a decimeter, even inside of buildings.
Apple and Starbucks have already equipped their stores with these mini-transmitters, and in the American baseball league, they act as ushers. So someone wanting to remove valuable items or machinery must reckon with an alarm going off. The application possibilities seem unlimited. A reference kit is available from Nordic Semiconductor (A5. 260); support is provided by Rutronik (A5. 159).
